Architecture and Empire in Jamaica 13 June 2017, London

Through Creole houses, merchant stores, and the “great houses” of sugar plantations, Jamaica played a leading role in the formation of both the early modern Atlantic world and the British Empire.

Professor Nelson will introduce us to his acclaimed publication, Architecture and Empire in Jamaica, which offers the first scholarly analysis of Jamaican architecture in the long 18th century and a vivid social history of the island.
